00:00:02 We're going to do a little video explaining how to search for Senior Service Missionary Opportunities. First thing you want to do is open the Chrome browser. The church websites work better with Chrome than any other browser. So open the Google Chrome web browser and point it to seniormissionary.churchofJesusChrist.org. And this is the page that you will see.
00:00:31 Then you're going to go over here and click on Search Opportunities and Service Missionary.
00:00:38 It will then have you sign in to your church account.
00:00:42 This is the account that you use at church with JesusChrist.org.
00:00:47 You click in sign in and then it will prompt you to use your username and password and
00:00:54 perhaps even a two factor ID depending on how you've configured it.
00:00:59 I'm going to log in, but I'm going to pause the video while I do that.
00:01:04 When I logged in, it brought me back to the same page, so again I click on
00:01:09 now my pictures right here, so you can see I'm logged in, but I click on service,
00:01:14 search opportunities and service missionary opportunities.
00:01:18 And this is the search function that we want to look at.
00:01:24 Now, this bar here, this search bar, tells you to look for different things and job function name.
00:01:32 That doesn't really work very well right now. And so if you've been given a position number,
00:01:39 you will put it in here and click on search. So if the position number, you know your position number,
00:01:44 that's where you go. If you're searching for an opportunity, you're going to set up some
00:01:50 parameters over here on the left side. I'm going to tell you there are a couple of things I
00:01:56 don't want you to check. Do not check opportunities to sign my stake. If there is something your
00:02:02 stake wants you to do, they'll give you the position number. And then down at the bottom,
00:02:08 couples only. Very few of these service opportunities or positions are couples only. Typically if
00:02:18 If you're a couple, you want to work together, you're going to each select a separate position
00:02:24 number.
00:02:25 Now, here you're going to serve from home.
00:02:28 Those are mission calls where you are going to be working on the internet right now.
00:02:35 The most popular ones are family search and pathway.
00:02:38 to search for a virtual mission you click on serve from home and then the best
00:02:50 thing to do is to search for assignment types that you know have a virtual
00:02:57 opportunity so we're gonna go to family history which is family search and we're
00:03:04 going to also click on Pathway. It's, and those are the two that are the most common and you can
00:03:18 say serve from home and then you can look at the different opportunities that are here and some of
00:03:25 the opportunities will be in Las Vegas and some will be in other locations. And so if you find
00:03:34 one that you're interested in, you can explore that. And if you have any questions about a specific
00:03:43 assignment, if the additional details does not show anything under questions about this assignment,
00:03:51 contact us and we will help you find someone who can answer your questions.
00:04:03 And those are special situations, but mostly you're going to put serve close to home.
00:04:09 That means that you're willing to travel to the temple or travel to the Bishop Storehouse
00:04:15 or travel to the Mission Office or some other local area where you're close to home but not
00:04:23 actually serving the internet in your home.
00:04:26 You can put max distance and you can set hours per week and service length.
00:04:32 I encourage you to do that later.
00:04:34 What we're going to focus on is on the assignment times.
00:04:38 Now it does have an address here.
00:04:40 That defaults because you're logged in, it's going to default to the chapel where you attend church.
00:04:46 I don't encourage you to change that at all.
00:04:49 Where the real search starts here is to go into assignment types.
00:04:52 and you can see here there's a long list of different assignment types, now some
00:04:57 of which won't apply if you're in Las Vegas and you apply for a cannery you're
00:05:04 not going to find one, but there's all kinds of office different things and
00:05:10 sometimes the opportunities aren't quite self-explanatory so don't
00:05:17 hesitate to click on them and search around and see what's going but let's
00:05:22 It's just for fun, start with the Bishop Storehouse.
00:05:25 You can see that this brought up a number of positions for the storehouse and different
00:05:34 types of positions.
00:05:36 Now, if you click on any position, it brings up a little more information about the purposes
00:05:44 of the position, the responsibilities of the position, and the qualifications.
00:05:53 And like for example, in this particular one, you have to be able to lift 30 pounds.
00:05:57 So if you look at this and you say, I can't do that, I can't, I'm not able to do it depending
00:06:02 on stooping, then this position isn't a good fit for you.
00:06:06 and so you will also know that all service missionaries must be temple
00:06:14 that's mandatory for all service missionaries no matter what position so
00:06:22 let's now say okay I've decided I can't live 30 pounds or bend over so I'm
00:06:27 gonna look for another type of assignment and so I'm gonna go into
00:06:32 family history. This is the family search thing. And so again we have a number, it
00:06:41 indicates eight hours a week for 24 months. You click on additional details, it tells
00:06:47 more about the thing. And in this particular one we actually have a contact
00:06:52 information where you can contact these people and get more information. So
00:07:02 the manager for this Family Service Center and he can tell you all the qualifications
00:07:11 that you have. You must have some computer skills and they want you to be enthusiastic
00:07:16 about family history work and of course you have to be temporary. So anyway this is a
00:07:22 great thing. Now if you're going through and you say I might be interested in that, you
00:07:28 can click on this save button and it will save it and you can come back to it later.
00:07:36 Let's exit out of that and let's say that you wanted to work in the Mission Office and
00:07:41 so you go into the Mission Office.
00:07:45 Now again if you click on some of these things you're going to find that there aren't any
00:07:50 opportunities here but here's some Mission Office support opportunities and it tells
00:07:55 you what can be done there. Now one of the things that if you were to click on
00:08:05 couples only, probably these opportunities would go away. It looks like
00:08:12 there's a couple that they want you to serve as a couple, but typically what
00:08:16 they have you do is just each of you apply for your own position. And so each
00:08:21 Each of you apply, if you're a couple, each of you apply with a separate position number there.
00:08:28 And let's say that you get into this and you say, okay, I might be thinking about that.
00:08:33 So we save that too.
00:08:35 And let's exit out of that.
00:08:38 And let's say, oh, maybe I might be interested in serving in the Seminary Institute.
00:08:47 Well, this is in the Bozeman, Montana opportunity.
00:08:51 So that doesn't really apply here.
00:08:55 So maybe you don't want to do that unless it's a purely online opportunity.
00:09:02 And so this particular opportunity may not fit because it's not even here.
00:09:08 So let's jump down to the temple.
00:09:12 And there's a number of opportunities.
00:09:15 They desperately need help in the office, and they need help at scanning and recording
00:09:25 ordinances.
00:09:26 They need to be able to help patrons print out units cards and check out ordinance training
00:09:32 cards to the ordinance workers.
00:09:34 A lot of need to be able to schedule appointments and answer phone calls.
00:09:40 It is important to have basic computer skills and not a whole lot of training there but that's a very needy calling.
00:09:50 So let's click Save on that.
00:09:53 Now let's say that you leave and you say I need to think about this what not.
00:09:58 You'll see over here in the top part of the screen it has my opportunities and it says that there are three saved opportunities that we have saved here.
00:10:08 and so you can come back to the ones and let's say you decide okay I want to do
00:10:13 the temple administrative office at this point you click submit when you click
00:10:19 submit I'm not going to do that here because I can't logged in under me I'm
00:10:24 already service missionary it's gonna say I can't do that but if you click on
00:10:29 submit it's gonna take you to the missionary recommendation system and it
00:10:36 It will interview you with the name, birth, date, and details about your basically filling
00:10:43 out an application to be a missionary.
00:10:46 When you submit that, then the next step is that it goes to your bishop and he will
00:10:53 arrange for a worthiness interview, a missionary worthiness interview, and from there it goes
00:10:58 to the state president.
00:11:00 At that point, it leaves the Missionary Recommendation System and goes into a Senior
00:11:08 Missionary Management System.
00:11:11 And at that point, it goes to the Administrative Manager for the entity that you're going to
00:11:21 be serving for.
00:11:22 So if you're working in the temple, the operation manager is the temple recorder, the Family
00:11:31 Service Library Missionary Mark at Waite and his wife, Anita, are the managers of the Family
00:11:39 Service Library and the Mission Office support will be the mission president or somebody
00:11:44 who's delegated that too.
00:11:45 So, that person will, the manager will contact you, typically they're going to have an interview,
00:11:55 it could be in person or it could be on the phone, and they're going to determine if there's a good fit.
00:12:01 And once they determine it's a good fit, then they will approve the assignment,
00:12:06 and then it goes to one more approval from your state president.
00:12:09 Once he approves it, then he will issue a call.
00:12:12 Actually, the call will come from the state president.
00:12:14 and he will set you apart.
00:12:17 If the operation manager for the organization you're going to be working for it,
00:12:25 determines it's not a good fit, he's going to let the state president know,
00:12:29 and then you need to come back and look for another opportunity
00:12:33 and we can assist you with that,
00:12:36 finding another opportunity that might be a better fit.
00:12:39 So, in recap, you click on search opportunity, service missionary, log in, and then try different
00:12:49 assignment types to find a position that you're going to do.
00:12:53 And then once you consider it, then you're going to click on submit and start the process.
00:13:00 And then you're going to be interviewed by your bishop and stick present.
00:13:06 and and then you'll also probably have a quick interview with the organizational
00:13:11 manager to make sure it's a good fit and then you'll get called and set apart by
00:13:17 your state president. If you have any questions about any of this process be
00:13:22 sure to let us know and we will try to help you in any way if you want help
00:13:29 finding your position, give us a call.
